Political Study Centre to Teach ‘Real Politics’

For students the entry will be free whereas others will have to pay some fee for availing the facilities.

KAKKANAD : The district panchayat has come up with a novel attempt to set up a ‘political study centre’ at the district panchayat office with an aim to educate the people on the importance of “real politics” and to provide a platform for debating national issues.

Commenting on the project, the district panchayat president Eldhose Kunnappilly said, “The meaning of real politics in the country  has derailed to some extent due to factional feuds and the game for political gains among political parties. To counter this, we are aiming to create a generation which has the real outlook on politics, based on what our Mahatma had shown us.”

The study centre is one of the major projects of the district panchayat for the 2014-15 financial year. “Veteran politicians will teach the students about real politics. Besides, we will bring some university professionals from foreign countries to teach the subject,” Kunnappilly added. The district panchayat will also open a full-fledged library which will include a digital platform for students to read articles and books online.

“We have reserved around `1 crore for purchasing the books alone. The library will consist of books on science, art, politics, philosophy, music, history, culture and literature etc.,” Kunnappilly said.

For students the entry will be free whereas others will have to pay some fee for availing the facilities.

“Around 4,000 square feet area has been reserved for the library and political centre on the fourth floor of the district panchayat office. The library will be fully completed only in the second phase as we need to provide infrastructure, books and other facilities,” Kunnappilly said.

The district panchayat has allocated `2 crore for these projects and it will be completed by 2015. The official inauguration of this project will be held on July 18 by Excise Minister K Babu.
