Joyce George to Take on Dean in Idukki

Idukki: Joyce George, legal advisor of High Range Samrakshana Samiti, has been selected as the Independent candidate of the Left Democratic Front to contest from Idukki.

Joyce George, legal advisor of High Range Samrakshana Samiti, has been selected as the Independent candidate of the Left Democratic Front to contest from Idukki. The LDF extended the offer to Joyce George to become a LDF independent after former MP Francis George spurned the offer to become a common independent candidate, party sources said.

The district unit of the CPM has forwarded the candidature of Joyce George, which, in all probability, will be accepted by the state leadership, sources said.

The High Range Samrakshana Samiti (HRSS), in its core committee meeting held at Kattapana on Wednesday, had decided to extend its support to Joyce George. Joyce is an advocate in the Kerala High Court and is a legal advisor of HRSS. Joyce had his early education from Government High School, Vazhathopu. He completed his B Sc Maths from Newman College, Thodupuzha, and KE College, Kottayam. He secured fourth rank in MSW from Loyola College, Thiruvananthapuram, and took bachelor’s degree in Law from Government Law College, Thiruvananthapuram. He was the College Union chairman at Newman College, Thodupuzha, in 1991.

Joyce is the eldest of the seven children of George and Mary, Paliyathu House, at Vazhathopu. His wife Anupa is a plus-II teacher at St Jeromes Higher Secondary School, Vellayamkudi.
