The pact of alliance between the NSS and the SNDP to fight against the injustice meted towards the Hindu community had fallen apart recently.
Earlier, they had decided not to form any common political organisation and agreed to continue with their independent policies on socio-political as well as religious issues. But, the LDF and the UDF suspected them to become a major bargaining power as they alleged that both the fronts are appeasing organised minority communities in which Muslims form 24 per cent and Christians forming 19 per cent of state population and neglecting the majority community. Now, the situation has changed with the Nair Service Society (NSS) deciding to take an equidistance policy in this polls. Though the SNDP is yet to come out with a decision, it has been made clear that the political stance will be taken as soon as the candidates are announced.
NSS general secretary G Sukumaran Nair had already announced that the organisation would not interfere in the selection of candidates. It had also made clear that the organisation will not insist any NSS member to vote for a particular party or a candidate.
Though the visit of Kerala Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) president V M Sudheeran at NSS headquarters had sparked a controversy, it was not the same with the case of candidates. Some of the candidates from all the fronts have visited Nair to get NSS support.
Sree Narayana Dharma Paripalana (SNDP) Yogam general secretary Vellappally Natesan said that the decision to be adopted in the election will be taken at the board meeting scheduled to be held on March 30. There will not be any united movement with ‘Kerala People’s Front,’ an organisation formed with 21 backward communities, with SNDP Yogam at the forefront, he said. Nair clarified that the NSS members have a clear political stance and the organisation would not like to interfere in it. However, the reluctance of the government in implementing the recommendations in the Sinhu Commission Report would cause a backlash for the UDF this time.
