Idukki Dam to be Opened for Public

IDUKKI: The Idukki dam will be opened for the public in connection with the Onam for one month starting from September 1 to 30. The visitors would be allowed from 9 am to 5 pm, Roshy Augustine MLA has said.The tickets would be issued near ticket counter close to Cheruthony dam, he said.

People visiting the dam could take up boating in the reservoir. Each member is charged `600 and the boat can carry five persons at a time.The dam is open for public only during Onam and Christmas, due to security reasons. Last year the flow of public was much to see the dam brimming with water as the level had touched near full level mark of 2,403 ft and reports of plans to release water from the dam. Over 2.43 lakh people had visited the dam last year which is four times higher compared to 2012 when only 60,000 people had visited.
