KOZHIKODE: Come Onam and the city is abuzz with energy and vibrant colours.

Though celebrating Onam at home at one's own leisure is still preferred by most of the families, many are seen opting to go out and have a special sadya without having to toil in the kitchen.

With children living abroad or out of the state, many parents too just reduce their celebrations to a small flower carpet in the front porch and a lunch at a leading restaurant. Most of the restaurants in the city nowadays have special onasadyas available on Thiruvonam day as well as on Uthradam and Avittam days. Here are some of the hotels in the city that you can visit for a sumptuous onasadya this season. The Malabar Palace, which is one of the finest star hotels in the city, will be serving the traditional onasadya on September 5, 6 and 7 from 12 noon to 3 pm. Apart from the delicious delicacies, mula ari payasam and palada pradhaman will also be served with the sadya.

The onasadya is priced at Rs 350 per leaf and the take-away payasam containers are priced at Rs 400 per litre.

Kovilakam Residency too will be arranging onasadya on September 6 and 7. Sadya with 21 varieties of curries will be served here, priced at Rs 275 per leaf. Sadya can be taken as parcel at the rate of Rs 300. Palada pradhaman too is available at Rs 315 per litre. Sadya will be served from 12 to 3 pm. A traditional ela sadya, inclusive of all the lip-smacking dishes such as pachadi, olan, thoran, koottu curry, kaalan, puli inji, achaar, sambar and two payasams will be served at the Taj Gateway Hotel on September 6 and 7 between 12 noon and 3 pm, priced at Rs 650 per person.

WelcomHotel Raviz Kadavu will be serving a sadya which will have a mouth-watering array of 40 dishes and five varieties of payasams such as the most-preferred palada, pineapple pradhaman, aripayasam, ada pradhaman and yam payasam. The sadya will be served only on Thiruvonam day and will be priced at Rs 650 plus tax. The sadya can also be booked.

Asma Towers, like every year, will serve onasadya on Uthradam day from 12 noon to 3.30 pm.  A traditional sadya with two payasams will be served at their Mezban restaurant and will be priced at Rs 380 per person. Jayas Mayflower will be arranging onasadya on September 5 and 6 with 18 varieties of dishes and two payasams. The sadya is priced at Rs 160 per head.
