AIMS Observes B’day Thru Charity Way

KOCHI: In connection with the 61st birthday celebrations of Mata Amritanandamayi, the Paediatric Cardiology department of Amrita Institute of Medical Science (AIMS) has performed free heart surgery on 3,000 children. 

The department achieved this, working in collaboration with the patient service section of AIMS.  Financial assistance were also given to patients for treatment of cardiac ailments.

The hospital authorities said last year alone they spent `4 crore towards the free treatment of children suffering from cardiac ailments.

The hospital has won the British Medical Journal (BMJ India) Award for paediatric heart programme.

This is the first time that a hospital in the country has won such an award. Medical fraternity from countries such as Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Nepal, Vietnam, Philippines, Ethiopia, Uganda, Portugese, Germany, Canada and US come to the Paediatric Academic Centre of AIMS for training.
