THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Scores of students who appeared for AIPMT exam are in a dilemma whether to appear for the AIPMT re-examination or secure an admission in a state medical college as the Commissioner for Entrance Examinations (CEE) has started inviting options from candidates for admission to medical colleges in the state.
“The first priority for a student, who has appeared for for both APIMT and state entrance examination, will be to get a safe seat. Naturally, the student will obtain admission in the state merit quota. The problem will arise when he or she vacates the seat to opt for a medical college outside the state on the basis of the AIPMT re-test rank,” said a senior academic. While a student who gets admission to a government medical college in the state under the All-India quota needs to pay an annual tuition fee of `4,000, the same student will have to shell out `25,000 per year if he gets admission from the state entrance rank list.
Officials are hopeful that the AIPMT re-examination results will be out before the state allotment process ends. “The second allotment will be done towards the end of July and by that time, the AIPMT results will be out,” said a senior official at the CEE’s office. However the issue still remains unresolved for those students who would want to vacate their state seats to opt for top medical institutions outside the state.
