KARIPPUR: Police have arrested Calicut International Airport Fire and Safety supervisor Aji Kumar in connection with the death of CISF head constable S S Yadav.  The CISF head constable died in a skirmish with Aji Kumar and CISF Sub Inspector Seetharam Choudhari on June 10.

The police arrested Aji Kumar from a private hospital at Kozhikode, where he was admitted with injuries following the brawl. Aji Kumar may be the key accused in the case as he  allegedly started brawl that led to the death of S S Yadav.

“We will arrest fire superintendent Sunny Thomas as he is discharged from the hospital.  More charges may be slapped on Seetharam Choudhari following the result of forensic lab tests,” DySP Sharafudheen, who is monitoring the investigation, said. The senior police officials evaluated the investigation process at a meeting convened under North ADGP Shankar Reddy at Kondotty near here on Monday.

The ADGP said that they had not yet slapped the IPC section 304 against Seetharam Choudhari. Meanwhile, Malappuram DySP S Abhilash will issue a notice to the senior CISF officials to present the remaining CISF personnel involved in the vandalisation of the airport.  Police informed that more than 15 CISF personnel were involved in the incident.

The Manjeri court has remanded the four CISF personnel, arrested by the police on Sunday, in judicial custody.  The remand report of the police accuses them with serious lapses in the duty.

The report says that the action of the CISF personnel compromised the safety of the country and the passengers in the two flights, which were diverted to Kochi due to the issues at Karippur on June 10.
