THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:The Cyberdome project, initiated by the Home Ministry to decentralise cyber-policing and to effectively curb and tackle cyber crimes in the state, is likely to be operational within a couple of months at Technopark here.
The formal agreement with the Technopark authorities will be signed soon in this regard, the hitech cell officials have said.
ADGP(Modernisation) Arun Kumar Sinha says that the department had held discussions with the Technopark authorities to set up an office space with due support from the cyber experts of some companies. “The facility is expected to be operational within a couple of months as there are some initial proceedings yet to take place. We are in the negotiation process with the officials of the IT park regarding the rent of the space. However, the full-fledged facility for the cyber police will be opened shortly”, he says.
He also adds that the training of the officials entrusted for the project is also going on with the support of C-DAC, even though they seek assistance from cyber experts.
According to Manoj Abraham, IG, Thiruvananthapuram range, and nodal officer, the project will be completed in three phases. The first phase has already begun by setting up an online office called ‘Delta’. Through this facility, the detection and result of the cyber crimes will be easier with the expertise sought from New Delhi.
In fact, there will not be any further delay in the response time from the social media and others while receiving a complaint. By providing immediate solution to cyber crimes, the first phase has succeeded. Two more phases named ‘Tiger’ and ‘Cobra’ will be implemented in the near future. Cobra is the final phase which will have a confidential team of experts observing cyber intruders to curb such crimes. However, building new software and managing the same will take place at the physical office. Speciality software will be developed by the officials, including cases where women are becoming victims”, he says.
The state police had earlier sought assistance from certain companies to provide support in the platform of ethical hacking to combat ‘unknown’ hackers and cyber attacks to the government websites. Another plan that will be envisaged under the Cyberdome project is an automated system that will generate near-real-time intelligence based on data analysis. There will be systems that can predict crimes based on automated analysis of different data.
Meanwhile, Technopark Chief Executive Officer K G Gireesh Babu told ‘Express’ that though the space was allocated to the police nearly a year ago, the process on setting up the facility had gathered momentum only at present.
“In fact, two days ago, Manoj Abraham had visited the place and reviewed all the proceedings. We will give full support to the police department by giving them enough resources and facility for the smooth functioning,” he said.
