THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The CPM will stage dharnas in front of the district collectorates on June 18 in protest against the fall in rubber prices and the exclusion of Kerala farmers from the subsidy scheme of the Rubber Board.
The CPM state secretariat said on Monday that the price of natural rubber was Rs 250 a kg when the UDF Government assumed power. As the prices at present stooped to Rs 120 a kg, farmers were finding it difficult to continue tapping. The tapping workers had been left jobless. The CPM said it had earlier warned of the price fall when the country signed the ASEAN agreement.
