

ALAPPUZHA: In a bid to placate the rift between the SNDP and the Bishop of Idukki Mar Mathew Anikuzhikattil over the contentious remarks made by the latter on inter-religious marriages, the Kanjirapally Bishop Mar Mathew Arakkal visited SNDP Yogam general secretary Vellapally Nadesan at his residence at Kanichukulangara near here on Monday.
He spent more than 30 minutes in Vellapally’s residence. After the visit, Vellapally told ‘Express’ that the Bishop was pained over the remarks as the function was arranged at the Kanjirapally Diocese.
He said he regretted the remarks and that the anguish caused by it to the SNDP activists. With this conciliatory visit, Vellapally said, the SNDP Yogam has decided to end all agitations against the Bishop’s remarks. We have decided to embrace religious harmony, Vellapally said.
