Boys Outrank Girls in Engineering Entrance Exam

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:  Boys outshone girls by bagging all the top 10 ranks in the Kerala Engineering Entrance Examination. The rank list, which was published here on Tuesday by Education Minister P K Abdu Rabb, was prepared after giving equal weightage for the score obtained in the entrance examination and the marks obtained for Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry in the second year of Plus Two course.

Arjun B from Thiruvananthapuram bagged the first rank by scoring 578.42 followed by Ameer Hasan A S from Kozhikode (577.81) and Sreerag P, also from Kozhikode (576.3).

Incidentally, Arjun was the all-India second rank holder and the state topper in the CBSE Class XII examination.

However, girls put up a good show among those who had opted for the Architecture stream by bagging three out of the top five ranks. Lisa Therese from Malappuram emerged topper with a score of 321.60. Abishek M R from Ernakulam (321) and Devi Raj K (317.16) from Malappuram bagged the second and third spots. 

Out of the 1.11 lakh students who appeared for the entrance examination, 75,258 students qualified for admission to engineering courses. This included 30,708 boys and 24,472 girls.

While 37,976 students from the state Higher Secondary course made it to the rank list, the number of students from CBSE and ICSE syllabus were 15,109 and 1,157 respectively. However, more students from the CBSE stream (556) figured in the top 1,000 ranks when compared to Higher Secondary (367) and ICSE (63). While 57 boys found a place in the top 100 ranks, the remaining 43 was bagged by girls.

Students from Ernakulam district dominated the top 100 ranks by bagging 23 spots followed by Kozhikode (15) and Thiruvananthapuram (14).
