High Court Seeks Report on Driver Vacancies at KSRTC

KOCHI:The Kerala High Court has directed the Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KSRTC) to file an affidavit explaining the number of vacancies for the post of reserve driver as on July 1, 2104.

Justice P V Asha issued the order on a petition filed by Venugopal of Cherthala and three others, seeking a directive not to engage any person as reserve driver in the KSRTC, other than those included in the rank list published by the Public Service Commission. The rank list is due to expire on August 22.   The court also directed the KSRTC to inform the sanctioned strength of reserve drivers and the present physical strength, as on June 15, 2015. The court also asked the KSRTC to explain the method of appointment of the reserve drivers who are currently employed.

  It should be clearly stated whether they were appointed through the PSC, dying-in harness, Employment Exchange, empanelment, or, daily wages.

The High Court posted the case to June 26.
