Official Vehicles of Ministers Too to be Fined for Speeding

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:  In a major directive, Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala on Tuesday said that the official vehicles of ministers also should be fined if they were caught on CCTV camera for speeding. The fine would be imposed irrespective of persons and their positions. The decision was taken following a high-level meeting held for reviewing the functioning of the ‘Subhayatra’ project.  As a first step to introduce the project smoothly, with the co-ordination of other departments, a high-level meeting led by Chief Minster Oommen Chandy is scheduled to be held on June 24. The home minister, transport minister, education minister and PWD minister will also participate in the meeting.  In an effort to effectively implement traffic rules, more CCTV cameras will be installed at all major stretches in the state.  The minister also made it clear that stringent action would be taken against the offenders. Ambulance facility would be provided on the highways of Thiruvananthapuram, Kochi and Kozhikode in case of any emergency situation. The meeting also decided to ensure the presence of police officials at all schools in the morning and evening.
