IDUKKI: The sugarcane crops in Marayur and Kanthallur areas were extensively damaged in the heavy rain that has been lashing various parts of the district for the past few days.
The sugarcanes in the fields at Pattam Colony, Kocharam, Kudavayal and Karassanar in Marayur were uprooted by the strong winds followed by heavy downpour.
Besides sugarcane, crops such as jackfruit, mangoes and bananas at the farms of Somasekharan Nair, Prabhu, Neelakandan Nair and Chinna Durai were destroyed.
A loss worth lakh of rupees was estimated at an apple farm alone, when the apples ready for harvest fell-off the tree in Kanthallur.
