Vizhinjam Project Set to Take Wings

Chief Minister Oommen Chandy will inaugurate the ceremony at a function at Mukkola Junction at 4.30 pm

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Giving a big fillip to the development dreams of Thiruvananthapuram, the construction of the multi-crore Vizhinjam seaport project will be formally inaugurated on Saturday.

Chief Minister Oommen Chandy will inaugurate the ceremony at a function at Mukkola junction at 4.30 pm. Union Shipping Minister Nitin Gadkari is the chief guest for the occasion. Ports Minister K Babu, ministers, MLAs and MPs, top government officials and Adani Group chairman Gautam Adani will be present at the function.

Additional chief secretary (Ports) James Varghese and Adani Vizhinjam Port Pvt Ltd CEO Santhosh K Mohapatra will present reports on the project. Vizhinjam International Seaport Ltd CEO A S Suresh Babu will be present on the occasion. The Adani Group has assured the state government that it will complete the first phase of the project in less than 1000 days.

Dredging works for the `7525 crore project had started a few days ago in the coastal waters off Mulloor, Vizhinjam. As per the agreement signed between the state government and Adani Group, Phase I should be completed within four years.
