CD Unseen Sets Political Stage, Kerala Speaker Becomes Opposition Target

The ‘CD’ drama enacted by solar conman Biju Radhakrishnan might have earned derisive reaction from all around.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:  The ‘CD’ drama enacted by solar conman Biju Radhakrishnan might have earned derisive reaction from all around, perhaps except a section of  the media, especially when he had disappointed and taken the state for a ride in the end without presenting the recorded ‘stuff’ he claimed to have with him. Chief Minister Oommen Chandy’s stock might have gone high, who had also drawn immense political mileage for the foolish act of SNDP  Yogam leader Vellappally Natesan. But the Opposition Left proved on Monday that it cannot simply let the Solar issue go off the hook and tried to corner the government for ‘threatening’ the Solar Commission.

Insisting that they will not be content with anything short of an adjournment motion, crying foul at Speaker N Sakthan for not even considering the notice for it and pushing it as item number one in the submission list, Left legislators stormed into his podium and magnified their protest with a siege laid in front of the Speaker’s office later to the accompaniment of slogan shouts. They painted the Speaker as partisan and subservient to the diktats of the government and his ‘master’ Chandy.

The remarks and fears expressed by Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala in public on what would have been the scenario if something bad had happened to the conman when he was taken out of the state recently, as per the prescription of the Solar commission, turned out to be a catchy issue for  the Opposition. The minister’s stand was termed as a sort of threatening and an attempt to stifle the voice of the Solar Commission, which had frowned upon the police and the media for ‘celebrating’ the CD evidence collection drive.

The amazing reflex with which the Opposition was building pressure on the issue on Monday gave a feeling that the Left band was not ready to hear the government and just three days left for the session to end, nothing positive need to be expected in the coming days as well.

Vellappally Natesan kicking out the Chief Minister from attending the R Sankar statue unveiling ceremony to be attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in Kollam on Tuesday had made common cause for the treasury and Opposition benches, and naturally, the latter was not eager to add strength to Chandy further, by mentioning it. If it was the Solar CD drama which was doing the rounds when the House was on a recess in the past few days, another sordid political drama has made its way into the House in the last lap of the brief winter session. What about the state gaining or couldn’t make up as expected when the Chief Minister led ministerial delegation visited New Delhi or such things? Forget it, the House is doomed to be engrossed in more ‘meaty’ things.
