THRISSUR: The burnt body of a middle-aged man was found at an isolated area at Athekkad in Kolazhi near here on Sunday.

The deceased, identified as Jayan, 58, who worked as a painter had been missing since February 12. His family members had filed a complaint with the Viyyur police over his disappearance.

The body of Jayan was found by the action council, formed to protest the alleged police inaction in the case, after they searched isolated areas in Athekkad.

The purse of Jayan, which was lying near the burnt body had not caught fire, the police said.

Meanwhile, the residents in area said that Jayan was seen with a friend who was involved in several criminal cases on the day he went missing. Though shrubs in the area had caught fire a few days ago, there was no fire in the area where the body was found. The exact reason for the death was yet to be found, the police said.

Fingerprint experts collected evidence from the area. Dog squad was also brought to the spot.
