Strengthening of Party is First Priority, Says Kodiyeri

ALAPPUZHA:Newly-elected CPM state secretary Kodiyeri Balakrishnan has said that his first priority will be to strengthen the party and  give emphasis on class struggle.

Addressing media at the venue of the delegates’ session immediately after getting elected, he said the state would witness strong agitations on various fronts in the days to come. Fighting the neo-liberal policies and communal agenda of the Central Government will be of great importance, he said.

The UDF Government’s anti-people policies and rampant corruption also should be fought vigorously, he said. There will be agitations raising the problems being faced by coir workers, people living on the coastal belt, farmers and agricultural workers. Agitations  highlighting the burning issues confronting the SC-ST communities, backward communities,  economically backward sections of the forward castes and religious minorities will be taken up in the coming days, the new state secretary said.

Kodiyeri pointed out that it was important to destabilise the UDF Government. Asked whether there would any plan to induct new allies to broaden the LDF fold, he said the enemies are strong and it is not prudent to reveal the strategies.

‘VS will be Given Due Consideration’

Asked whether there will be any disciplinary action against VS, Kodiyeri said the question itself is irrelevant as VS is a leader of high repute of all time. ‘’We have hope in him. We will give all due respects and consideration to him.He is the senior most leader of the party,’’ the new state secretary said.

‘’VS had squandered the opportunity to explain his position in the party conference and secretariat. He could have attended the meeting. But he didn’t. He will be given due consideration as he is our senior most leader,’’ Kodiyeri said.

On inducting VS in the state committee, Kodiyeri said being the central committee member VS had no problem in attending the state committee and secretariat. However, Kodiyeri said, a revolutionary party like CPM cannot tolerate indiscipline.  He said the frontal organisations of the party could organise independent agitations  in their respective fields.

Asked whether he would be a more liberal and sober face of the party compared to his  predecessor Pinarayi Vijayan, he said no other leader had to face such opposition and challenges as Pinarayi faced. ‘’In the days of crisis, he led the party like a titan. He had always been a great leader,’’ Kodiyeri said.
