KOZHIKODE: The ADGP N Shanker Reddy-led Special Investigation Team (SIT), which is probing the wider conspiracy behind the T P Chandrasekharan murder case has hit a roadblock with the probe team unable to obtain certification for the call details record (CDR) of certain CPM leaders, who are allegedly involved in the plot, from the mobile service providers.

Over the past few months, the probe team has been awaiting an intervention by the Central Government to secure authentication from the service providers, it is learnt.

tp.JPGThat the incident occurred on May 4, 2012 and the CDR is more than a year old, the mobile service providers are refusing to endorse it. At the same time, the SIT could not apply for a fresh CDR as the service providers would only keep such details for a year only. Hence, sources said, the SIT had requested the state a few months ago to seek the intervention of the Union Government to obtain the certification; a document which is essential to authenticate the CDR before the trial court.

The earlier SIT, led by then Crime Branch ADGP Winson M Paul, had collected CDR of CPM leaders to probe into their role in the conspiracy behind the dastardly killing. However, sources maintain that the probe team had then failed to obtain certification from the service providers due to dubious reasons.

According to top sources, the probe by the new SIT has found some links in the CDR which indicates concrete connection to some senior leaders of the CPM in the murder.  “The CDR clearly shows conversation between one of the main accused in the case with a senior leader, who was travelling along with two other party leaders just weeks before the murder,’’ sources said.

The SIT’s initial finding based on the call details record that Kirmani Manoj, one among the killer gang, was present in Kozhikode city limits the whole day on April 9, 2012, while the CPM Party Congress was going on, had put the CPM in the dock earlier in 2014. Significantly, this angle was not mentioned in the charge-sheet submitted by the first SIT.

It also assumed greater significance as it was to Kirmani Manoj whom the task for eliminating Chandrasekharan was entrusted with in the murder attempt in 2009, a case for which was registered in Chombala police station. The SIT reportedly noted that it would not be wrong to assume that Kirmani Manoj and K C Ramachandran might have got the go ahead signal from party leaders on April 9 as the latter had met Kodi Suni in Chokli on April 10.

The SIT, which probed the conspiracy part, also noted that what happened from April 10 to April 25, 2012, was a reconstitution of the killer gang. They also cited that Kirmani Manoj had called P K Kunjananthan after the operation on May 4, 2012 and the call lasted for just five seconds.

As per the charge-sheet, the first conspiracy was held at the flower shop at Orkatteri on April 2, 2012, and entrusted Ramachandran with the duty of executing the operation.
