KASARGOD:The District and Sessions court has sentenced civil contractor K C Hamsa (52) of Masthikkundu to death for the murder of his 14-year-old domestic help Safiya in 2006. His wife and accused No. 3, Maimoona (37), has been awarded a three-year jail term. Judge M J Shakthidharan ordered Hamsa to be hanged till death under the Indian Penal Code Section 302. The judge also fined the convict Rs 10 lakh, of which Rs 8 lakh would be given to Safiya’s parents, Moidu and Ayesha.
The court also sentenced Hamsa to six years’ of rigorous imprisonment (RI) and another three years of RI if he fails to pay the penalty.
Maimoona has been sentenced to undergo two concurrent three-year simple imprisonment. She was also fined Rs 10,000. Hamsa’s relative M Abdulla (58), named as accused No. 4, has been sentenced to three years of rigorous imprisonment and fined Rs 5,000 under Section 201. The court granted bail to Maimoona and Abdulla.
