Scam: Key Accused Taken into Custody

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The key accused person in Janasree scam will be taken into police custody from judicial custody on Monday for further interrogation, police said.

Vijayachandran Nair alias Pongamvila Chandran, 57, the secretary of Janasree unit of Venjaramood here was arrested last week on charges of cheating and financial irregularities, including swindling of loan interest amount and inflating the loan amount for beneficiaries before the banks.

According to investigating officer CI V Jayachandran, the custody of the accused was sought last week before the Magistrate concerned to unearth more details through interrogation. “Primarily, Vijayachandran Nair is the major link to this case. So he needs to be probed. Moreover, details of cheating he had done would be revealed only after he is quizzed. Meanwhile, search is on to find co-accused Chandrasekharan Nair”, he said.

The CI said the details from the banks are yet to be taken as the reply from the banks are pending. “It is learnt that the banks have approached their regional offices and they will reply only after thorough inspection on the irregularities,” the CI said.
