Three-day 11th Kerala Environment Congress Begins

KOTTAYAM:The 11th Kerala Environment Congress organised by the Trivandrum-based Centre for Environment and Development (CED) was jointly inaugurated by Kerala Agricultural University Vice-Chancellor Dr P Rajendran, Mahatma Gandhi University Vice-Chancellor Dr Babu Sebastian, Kerala State Council for Science Technology and Environment executive vice-president and Science and Technology Department principal secretary Dr Suresh Das, Rubber Research Institute of India director Dr James Jacob, CED chairman Prof V K Damodaran, Municipality Development Standing Committee chairman Adv N S Harichandran and CED executive director Dr Babu Ambat, at Mamman Mappila Hall here on Wednesday.

The three-day programme, supported by the Kerala State Council for Science, Technology and Environment, stressed on the idea of maximum development at minimum exploitation of environment.

Dr Rajendran said that the climate changes have adversely affected agriculture and allied sectors such as fish farming, poultry and plantation.

Dr Babu Sebastian dwelled on different manifestations of climate change and resultant social issues.
