Monthly Poojas to Begin on May 14

SABARIMALA:The hill shrine of Lord Ayyappa here will be opened on May 14 for the five-day monthly poojas for the Malayalam month of ‘Idavam’.

Melsanthi Krishnadas Nampoothiri will open the Sreekovil of the temple at 5.30 pm in the presence of Thantri Kandararu Rajivaru.As an ongoing temple practice, no ritual will be conducted at the Sreekovil in  the evening.Sabarimala Devaswom executive officer V S Jayakumar said special rituals, including ‘Sahasrakalasam’, ‘Laksharchana’ and ‘Kalabhabhishekam’, would be held during the days.As part of ‘Sahsrakalasam’ to be held on May 15, Thantri Rajivaru would conduct ‘kalasa’ pooja at Sopanam near the Sreekovil on May 14 evening. Kalasabhishekam, marking the conclusion of the ritual, would be held during ‘Uchcha’ pooja on May 15.In connection with Laksharchana to be held on the first day of ‘Idavam’, the thantri would conduct Brahmakalsa pooja at the Mandapam at 6 am, followed by recital of vedic mantras by scholars. ‘Kalabhabhishekam’ is the other special ritual to be conducted on the day. The hill shrine will be closed on May 19 evening after ‘Athazha’ pooja and ‘Harivarasanam’.
