Bar Bribery: ADGP's Removal Violation of Assurance, Says VS

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Opposition leader V S Achuthanandan has said that by removing ADGP Jacob Thomas from the responsibility of investigating the bar bribery case Chief Minister Oommen Chandy and Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala had violated their assurance given to the Assembly.

VS said in a statement that during the last Assembly session when Jacob Thomas was promoted as ADGP, the Opposition had given a notice to move an adjournment motion claiming that it was to remove Jacob Thomas from the responsibility of investigating the bar bribery case.

But the Chief Minister and Home Minister gave the assurance in the Assembly that there was no move to remove Jacob Thomas from the responsibility. Throwing this assurance to the winds, Jacob Thomas has been removed from the responsibility of the case.

Now, the Home Minister is uttering lies by going to the extent of saying that Jacob Thomas had never been given responsibility of investigating the bar bribery case.  Now the onus is on Ramesh Chennithala to state on what basis that he gave the assurance to the Assembly that Jacob Thomas would not be excluded from the case, VS said.
