Action Council Plans Protest from May 17

KOCHI:The Sabari Rail Action Council has announced that it would take out a mass protest rally from May 17 to 21, demanding restoration of the rail project and solution to the problems of the families affected by the project.

The rally will begin at Karimkunnam and end at Kalady. Chalakkudy MP Innocent, Idukki MP Joyce George and legislators from the four districts through which the proposed rail line passes will take part in the rally. “The proposed rail line covers the five municipalities of Pala, Thodupuzha, Muvattupuzha, Kothamangalam, Perumbavoor and Angamaly and 11 small towns. The rally will touch all the stations on the proposed rail route,” said Action Council chairman P M Ismail.

“Hundreds of families whose land was identified for acquisition for the trailing Sabari Rail project are in a state of utter despair for the past 15 years,” he said.
