Gold Worth Rs 19L Seized

KOCHI: Officials of the Air Intelligence Unit of the Customs Department on Friday seized gold worth Rs 19 lakh from three passengers at the Nedumbassery airport, who had arrived from Kuala Lumpur on an Air Asia flight.

Tamil Nadu natives Shanmuganath, Nazarudheen and Shanumugan were arrested in connection with the incident.

The trio had broken a gold bar into three pieces, and was carrying one piece each. The gold, with a total weight of 706 gm, was wrapped in carbon paper and concealed in the pocket of the trouser.   First, the Customs officials apprehend one of the smugglers, who provided details of the others.
