Autopsy Report Confirms Woman Committed Suicide

KOCHI:The postmortem report of Anuja, who was found hanging from the ceiling of a rented house at Kalamassery the other day, has confirmed suicide as the cause of death.

The police will arraign Khaleem, a native of Chavakkad who was living with Anuja for the last two months, as accused for abetting the suicide. He might be arrested in the coming days.

Kalamassery circle inspector C J Martin, the investigation officer, said there was no indication of murder in the postmortem report. “We also spoke to the police surgeon who conducted the postmortem, confirming it as a clear case of suicide. No marks of assault or forceful hanging was found on her body. Her hair was shaved by Khaleem on her request,” he said. Police said the statement of Anju’s parents was recorded on Monday evening. It is also being probed whether Anuja was converted into Islam, or not. “From the statement of Khaleem, it is learnt that she was ready to adopt Islam to marry him. But, further investigation is required to confirm the conversion aspect.

“Until now, the parents of the deceased have not filed any complaint. A detailed statement will be recorded on Tuesday. Anuja, who was living with Kaleem for the past two months, reportedly asked him to shave off her hair on Friday morning. Later, they went to Palarivattom and returned in the evening. There was a verbal fight between the duo, following which Khaleem went out. When he returned in the night, he saw Anuja’s body hanging in the house,” the police officials said.

Meanwhile, activists of the Love Jihad Action Council said that Anuja was murdered after she refused to be  converted into Islam.

“The police are diverting the case to save Khaleem. Several material evidence collected from the house were destroyed by the police. Several people used to visit the house where Anuja and Khaleem were living. This is a case of ‘love-jihad’,” a statement from the Council stated.
