ALAPPUZHA: G Sudhakaran MLA has started a satyagraha before the Collector’s chamber in protest against the failure of state government to construct ‘pulimuttus’ (groynes) along Alappuzha coasts to ward off sea attacks. Sudhakaran said Purakkad, Payalkulangara, Ambalappuzha, Neerkunnam, Vandanam West and Punnapra areas are increasingly becoming vulnerable to sea attacks. The government had already promised to construct 46 groynes in the area, but could fulfil only 6 pulimutts. Shores as close to 15 metres from the national highway at Purakkad got washed away. About 36 houses are on the verge of destruction.
