MANJERI:It’s a dream come true for Hiba P who bagged the first rank in the state medical entrance examination. Dedicating the rank to her late father, Hydermankutty, who passed away three years ago, an overjoyed Hiba said, my father always wanted me to become a doctor.
Her relatives and friends, overwhelmed with joy, have been pouring accolades on her for bringing this fete to the house, Zainas, named after her mother Zainaba at Thurakkal near here.
“I did not expect such a success in the entrance. After the examination, I believed that I may only get admission in a merit seat in a government medical college. But the rank was really a surprise. Many came in person to appreciate my efforts while others expressed their happiness through phone calls. I would like to pursue my MBBS course at the Kozhikode Medical College,” Hiba told Express.
She completed her Plus Two last year with 98 per cent marks from the Manjeri GBHSS and worked hard for the entrance examination last year.
She had joined an entrance examination centre at Pala in the beginning but left it owing to home sickness. She then joined Bhabha Institute of Sciences at Manjeri which proved to be a key factor in her success.
“We expected a rank within the first 10 for Hiba. It is for the first time an entrance coaching institute from Malabar is getting first rank in the medical entrance. We gave special training to select students in the institute with the support of subject experts and conducted special examinations. We believe this success is the result of her teacher’s efforts,” said V Shinoob, one of the directors of the institute.
Malappuram district secured fifth, tenth ranks in the entrance. N V Aiswarya and Melvin Shaji secured the fifth and tenth ranks, respectively.
Another student from the district, Vrindha Krishnan, secured first rank in the SC category.
