Tharoor Staff 'Assault' Scribe

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Shashi Tharoor MP found himself in the centre of yet another controversy on Thursday after his personal staff allegedly assaulted a senior journalist of a national TV channel here.

The incident occurred when reporters approached him for comments during a function at the Kerala State Council for Child Welfare.

On Wednesday night, an argument had broken out between the reporter and Tharoor at the airport while he tried to get the MP to comment on the investigation into his wife Sunanda Pushkar’s death. Tharoor had declined to comment on the issue. He had also posted a number of tweets criticising the TV channel saying he preferred to speak to the police and investigators.

Tharoor’s office confirmed the incident but said it was the reporter who shouted at the MP and attempted to assault him. ‘’We had no other option but to push him away,’’ a member of Tharoor’s staff said. Tharoor also shot off another volley of tweets saying the correspondent had tried to obstruct him from ‘speaking to 7-11 year-old-children.’
