THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Food Safety Commissioner has banned the manufacture, storage, sale and distribution of Kera Sree brand of coconut oil manufactured and marketed by PK Oil Mills, Chervarambalam, Kozhikode.

The order was issued by bringing in partial modification to an earlier order prohibiting the brand.

The recent order pointed out that there are more than one firm which uses the brand name of Kera Sree in manufacturing and marketing coconut oil in the state. The issue came to light after complaints were submitted by different firms.

“After hearing the complainants and checking documents produced by them, it’s understood that more than one firm is using the same brand name of Kera Sree in manufacturing and marketing coconut oil in the state.

“On verification, it’s noted that the Kera Sree brand of coconut oil which is manufactured and marketed by PK Oil Mills, TP Aracde, Chervarambalam, Kozhikode, was identified as substandard,” said the order.

The oil was banned by invoking section 36(3)(b) to ensure food safety across the state.
