Bio Pesticide 'Explode' to Exterminate Pests

KAKKANAD:Water Resource Minister P J Joseph said that in order to strengthen organic farming in state farmers should use the seeds they have developed.

He was speaking after inaugurating the launching of ‘Explode’,a bio-pesticide launched by the district panchayat in association with State Seed Farm Aluva, at District panchayat hall on Tuesday.

“The farmers should reserve some part of their crops as seeds. For the cultivation of organic vegetables the production of organic seeds are also important. The government should also give equal consideration to promote organic seeds along with the organic farming,” Minister said.

The minister also inaugurated the first sale of ‘Explode’ by giving a bottle of the bio pesticide to a farmer at the function.

The product will be available in the market in a bottle of 200 ml for Rs 50.

The Explode has been developed by the State Seed Farm using cow’s urine and gliricidia leaves’ extract.

“In the first phase we are using cows at the Aluva farm for making the product but soon we will develop the project with the help of other farmers. A facility will be arranged at our Aluva farm for receiving cow’s urine to produce ‘Explode’,” said district panchayat president Eldhose Kunnappilli while presiding over the function.

Principal agriculture office N M Neena, district panchayat vice president Bindhu George, Aluva agriculture officer Aju John Mathai, agriculture deputy director Mariamma G John also attended the programme.
