'Cleanse the Mindset of People'

Inaugurating the annual Maramon Convention, Joseph Marthoma Metropolitan said people should feel God in one’s self.

PATHANAMTHITTA:  The 121st Maramon Convention, billed as one of Asia’s largest Christian gatherings, began at the sandbed of Pampa at Maramon near Kozhenchery on Sunday. Inaugurating the annual meet, Supreme head of Marthoma Church Joseph Marthoma Metropolitan has called to clean up pollution in the mindset of the people. Joseph Marthoma said that pollution could be seen in all fields of society. “Though environment pollution is a big challenge before the policy planners and governments across the world, pollution faced by society as whole is the worst one,” the Metropolitan said.

All sections of society, including the clergy, are facing the erosion in all social values and human values, he said. “For wiping out the pollution among human beings, following the path of God is the only solution,” the Metropolitan said.

“People should feel God in the self,” he said.

The Marthoma Church head said that people should follow the path of Jesus Christ, who lived for the people.

Philipose Mar Chrysostom Valiya Metropolitan delivered the prayer address.

Marthoma Evangelistic Association president Thomas Mar Timothios presided over the meeting.

Rev T H Tan of Singapore delivered the speech. Geevarghese Mar Athanasios Suffragan Metropolitan, Geevarghese Mar Theodosios, Euyakim Mar Coorilos, Joseph Mar Barnabas, Isaac Mar Philexinos, Abraham Mar Paulose, Mathews Mar Makarios, Gregorios Mar Stephanos and Thomas Mar Tithos were present at the inaugural meeting.

Evangelistic Association general secretary Rev George Varghese Punnackad welcomed the gathering.

Chief Minister Oommen Chandy, Rajya Sabha deputy chairman P J Kurian, MPs Anto Antony and Kodikunnil Suresh and Bishop K P Yohanan were present at the meeting.
