UDF Won't Accept K Babu's Resignation, to Urge Mani to Return to Cabinet

The UDF meeting asked the government to proceed with a case to "bring out the conspiracy" behind the new revelation before the Solar commission.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A meeting of the Congress-led United Democratic Front (UDF) on Saturday has decided not to accept K Babu's resignation from the Cabinet.

The meeting, held at Chief Minister Oommen Chandy's official residence 'Cliff House', also resolved to urge K M Mani and Kerala Congress to return to the Cabinet at the earliest.

The UDF meeting asked the government to proceed with a case to "bring out the conspiracy" behind the new revelation before the Solar commission by key accused Saritha S Nair the other day. The meeting also decided to fight the Opposition campaign vigorously and also repeat the UDF's victory in the upcoming Assembly polls.

K Babu who was holding the Excise, Ports & Fisheries portfolio in the Chandy cabinet resigned after a Thrissur Vigilance Court asked the Vigilance and Anti Corruption Bureau (VACB) to file a case against him in the bar bribery allegations. Within hours of the Thrissur court statement last Saturday (Jan 23) Babu submitted his resignation to the Chief Minister, but the latter is yet to accept the resignation.

K Mani, the Finance Minister representing Kerala Congress (M) and key ally of the UDF, resigned in November last year following adverse remarks by the Kerala High Court in the bar bribery allegations by liquor baron Biju Ramesh.
