Withdraw Nod for Lake Reclamation: CPM

KOTTAYAM:  The CPM has demanded immediate withdrawal of the sanction given to a real estate company to utilise the Methran lake area ignoring the paddy field, watershed Rules. If the government did not withdraw the nod, the CPM would lead a mass protest, warned CPM district secretary V N Vasavan in a release here on Sunday.

The UDF Government has given the sanction for the private company during the last leap of its rule, he said, adding that a huge corruption is behind the move. The move to hand over the 417-acre Methran Lake had commenced much earlier.

However, it was not realised following the strong protest on the part of the CPM and various farmers’ organisations including the KSKTU, he claimed. The paddy from the Methran Lake area used to resolve the food scarcity to a great extent in olden days. It was following the food scarcity felt in Thiruvithamcore that the Methran Lake area started to be used for paddy cultivation after creating boundaries.
