TIRUVALLA: Sivarathri festival was observed at various Shiva temples here with religious fervour. Fishermen from Alappattu in Alappuzha district observed ‘Parisham Vaypu’ ritual at Chengannur Mahadeva temple. They offered special gifts to the presiding deities Lord Shiva and goddess Parvathi at the temple. Legend goes that lord Shiva incarnated in the form of a fisher. Therefore, people conduct special rituals at the temple on Shivarathri. Kavadiyattam, a dance ritual, was performed at the Thirumalida Mahadeva temple. Hundreds of devotees performed the ritual on the banks of river Manimala on Monday noon.
