KOCHI: The district committee of the CPM will meet here on Tuesday to finalise the list of candidates for the upcoming Assembly election in the district.
The district committee will scrutinise the list as instructed by the state committee, and come up with a revised list with one nominee each from the constituencies in the district.
With the state committee insisting that party secretaries P Rajeev (Ernakulam), V N Vasavan (Kottayam) and Saji Cheriyan (Alappuzha) should not contest this time, the party will have to find a new candidate for Tripunithura.
In the preliminary list submitted by the district committee, Rajeev was the only nominee for Tripunithura.
“All three of them were elected as district secretaries only recently. For instance, it is not easy to find a replacement for Rajeev in Ernakulam as district secretary. So, naturally he was asked to stay away from contesting the election,” said party insiders. “At Tuesday’s meeting, Rajeev is expected to suggest a name for Tripunithura. The nominee of Rajeev is likely to be an independent candidate from the cultural field,” they said.
