THIRUVANANTHAPURAM:  LOOKING to begin on a clean slate, Chief Minister designate Pinarayi Vijayan called on veteran CPM leader V S Achuthanandan on Saturday. The Cantonment House witnessed some historic moments  as Pinarayi took the initiative to meet VS - the party’s most popular campaigner during the election. Viewed as an attempt to console the veteran, who was dejected over the denial of CM post, Pinarayi visited him along with party state chief Kodiyeri Balakrishnan around 9.30am.

The meeting lasted about 10minutes. During the visit VS asked Pinarayi to take steps to ensure the safety of women and control price hike. Speaking to media after the visit, Pinarayi said: “Among us, V S Achuthanandan is the last party leader to hold the CM post. He has the practical experience of functioning as CM. Hence it’s important to understand various things from him,” Pinarayi said. Vijayan said he was a fresher in the administrative role as he held such a position long while ago.
