Congress High Command not for any major hits in Kerala, opts for status quo and watchful waiting

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Congress High Command has reportedly veered around a view that going for  any shock treatment in the party state unit or ruffling feathers of  leaders  at this juncture over the assembly polls rout  is not at all wise.

Indications that status quo shall be maintained in the party has been conveyed to leaders here. The word of  senior Congress leader and CWC member  A K Antony has been heavily relied upon by the High Command on this score, top sources told Express.

Since Oommen Chandy has opted out on his own volition from any race for the CLP leader and Opposition leader posts, Ramesh Chennithala will become an automatic choice for it. In all likelihood,Chandy will continue as the UDF chairman, setting a new precedent. And V M Sudheeran will continue as the KPCC president. A consensus has reached  among the trio in this regard. The CLP leader will be elected on Sunday.

Neither the reservations expressed by  a few MLA's in the inner circle of Chandy against his adamant stand, nor the interest shown by a couple of  MLA's  in the 'I' group itself to don the opposition leader's mantle is going to come in the way of  Ramesh.

Chandy is not expecting any last minute changes in the election of  the CLP leader. '' Myself being in the race is out of  question.  They (Congress central leaders) knows that a decision taken by me will not be changed'',he told Express.

Though there is a general perception and talk that only a major revamp of  the state unit of  the party will save it from the assembly poll aftershocks and any future reverses ,the High Command is for a watchful waiting  at the moment and go for a stock taking exercise before an overhaul later.
