Congress on Sunday came out vehemently against Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan's stand on the Mullaperiyar issue.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Congress on Sunday came out vehemently against Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan's stand on the Mullaperiyar issue, stating that the change of his stand was mysterious.

KPCC president V M Sudheeran, former chief minister Oommen Chandy and Ramesh Chennithala said that Vijayan's statement in Delhi on the Mulaperiyar issue was contradictory to the unanimous resolutions passed by the state Assembly demanding construction of a new dam in place of the 112-year old Mullaperiyar dam.

Vijayan had said that the dispute over the controversial Mullaperiyar dam should be resolved through talks between Kerala and Tamil Nadu. He also said that there was no use of whipping up passions and creating unnecessary controversies.
