KANNUR: Former MLA and IUML state committee member, K M Soopy, died due to age-related illness, in Panoor on Tuesday morning.
He was 83. Soopy is survived by wife Khadeeja and four children.
The body was kept at Najamathul Nursery School ground at Panoor for the public to pay their last respects before the funeral at Jumaat mosque.The people also observed a hartal at Koothuparamba Assembly constituency as a mark of respect to the leader.Born on April 15,1933 as the son of Mammu and Pathumma, he represented Peringalam constituency in Assembly in 1970 and 1991. He served as the district president of IUML in 2015.
