THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Kannur and Karuna Medical Colleges (MC) were dealt a major blow on Thursday, when the Commissioner for Entrance Examinations (CEE) informed the High Court that the colleges did not follow the norms and directions of the HC while conducting spot admissions on October 7.

The CEE contended that the entire admissions made by Kannur MC for the 2016-17 session be cancelled and eligible candidates be admitted in accordance with the NEET (National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test) rank list.

Admission processes in both colleges, said a report submitted by the CEE in the HC, was fraught with several discrepancies.

“Documents submitted by Kannur MC were mysterious, as the list of total applications and category-wise merit list for admission lacked the NEET rank and roll number of candidates, which were most important. Duplicate entry of candidates, mismatch in NEET roll number, erroneous entry of NEET rank were also found,” the CEE’s report said.

“Prima facie, it appears the college authorities disobeyed HC’s direction to be present before the CEE with all relevant records, including particulars of applications received, those rejected as defective, details of defects, final rank list of students concerned and other aspects that would substantiate their case as to the transparency and inter-se merit,” the report added.

In case of Karuna Medical College, the CEE said flaws were found in its admission data. “The category-wise split-up of candidates admitted by the college did not match the actual seat matrix, it was found. Discrepancies like duplicate entry of candidates, mismatch in NEET roll number, erroneous entry of NEET rank also figured in the list of admitted candidates,” the report stated.

It added that the college did not furnish documents related to admission of students and that its officials were not cooperative and tried to delay the process by giving misleading information.
