THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: K M Shajahan held in connection with the protest outside the Police Headquarters has demanded an explanation from Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on why he was put in jail and harassed. “The Chief Minister has taken revenge because of my fight against Vijayan in the SNC-Lavalin case,” he said.

Following his release on bail on Tuesday, Shajahan’s mother L Thankamma ended her fast. “My question is why was I put in jail for seven days?” Shajahan asked.

“What does Pinarayi Vijayan, as Chief Minister, have to say about that? I spent less than 10 minutes outside the DGP’s Office on April 5.”

Recounting the events, Shajahan said he had intervened when the Museum SI pushed SUCI activist M Shajarkhan by the nape of his neck into the police jeep. The SI demanded to know who he was. When he identified himself as V S Achuthanandan’s former staff member, the officer said, “Then you also get in.”

The police action amounted to violations of Articles 21 and 22 of the Constitution promising protection to life and personal liberty and safeguarding against arbitrary arrest and detention, said Shajahan.
