Shajarkhan, Mini accuse government of hatching conspiracy

Shajarkhan said Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan should apologise for the police excesses.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The State Government and not the Socialist Unity Centre of India (SUCI) had hatched the conspiracy in connection with the protest by Jishnu Pranoy’s family outside the Police Headquarters on April 5, SUCI activists M Shajarkhan and Mini said on Tuesday.

After his release on bail along with Mini and fellow activist Sreekumar, Shajarkhan said Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan should apologise for the police excesses. The agitation will continue until the people responsible for Jishnu’s death are arrested, he said.

‘’The police, the Chief Minister and the Home Department are responsible for the conspiracy,” he told reporters. Reiterating the stir was planned by Jishnu’s mother Mahija and uncle Sreejith, he said, “We assisted them. We are proud to have been able to help them. We have to say the Chief Minister accusing the people who helped them of being conspirators and infiltrators does not even have a fundamental idea of democracy.”

After questioning us for four hours, police officers could not even prove the hint of a conspiracy, said Mini. “There is no doubt the conspiracy was devised at the government level. If the management of the self-financing college hatched a conspiracy at one stage, the government hatched another to cover it,” she said.

While the police justify themselves saying people cannot hold protests outside the Police Headquarters, the police report itself says the crowd was outside the nearby Subramaniam Hall (Trivandrum Club), Mini said.

“That is not a restricted area,” said Mini. “Even when we were not standing in a restricted area, attacking us by claiming we tried to block people clearly reveals the extent of the conspiracy.”
