CPM opposition: Munnar eviction drive on hold

In view of the aggressive stand taken by the CPM local leadership over the eviction drive in Munnar, the district officers of the Revenue Department stayed away from resuming the eviction proceedings on Monday.

KOTTAYAM: In view of the aggressive stand taken by the CPM local leadership over the eviction drive in Munnar, the district officers of the Revenue Department stayed away from resuming the eviction proceedings on Monday.

It is learnt the officers are of the view the eviction should be resumed only after receiving sufficient police protection.


District Collector G R Gokul told Express the police have strengthened security. “Munnar eviction is a continuing process which will continue on its course. On receiving police support by Monday, the eviction proceedings will take its due course.

However, we can’t disclose the details,” he said. It is learnt the District Collector has called a meeting of the Revenue officers at his chamber on Thursday and proceedings will be resumed only on the basis of the outcome of the discussion.
