Norms relaxed for issuing solatium to kin of victims

The government has decided to relax the norms for issuing compensation to the families of wildlife attack victims.

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The government has decided to relax the norms for issuing compensation to the families of wildlife attack victims. A proposal for increasing the compensation amount from Rs 5 lakh to Rs 10 lakh is under consideration, said Forest Minister K Raju.

A meeting chaired by Raju decided to relax the existing norms for issuing compensation. At least 50 pc of the compensation amount will be sanctioned once the victims’ relatives submit the relationship certificate issued by the village office.  The meeting was called to look into issues related to wild animal attacks in Malampuzha. Administrative Reforms Commission chairman and local MLA VS Achuthanandan presided over the meeting.
