KOZHIKODE: A major sex scandal involving two minor girl siblings belonging to the Scheduled Caste community has come to light at Sivagiri, near Kurikathoor here. The police have managed to trace the culprits who include local politicians and businessmen.
The magnitude of the incident came to light after the police identified the involvement of a large number of people who sexually abused the minors in connivance with their parents.
The police have already booked a case against the girls’ father based on the statement of the elder girl that she was initially sexually abused by her father who later presented her and her younger sister to the other accused.The Kunnamangalam police said the two girls, aged 17 and 14, were reportedly being raped by their father, relatives and several other persons at various locations for the past one year. The first case was registered at the Kunnamangalam police station in December 2016 on a complaint filed by the elder girl.
Upon detailed investigation, the police were able to identify the remaining accused. In due course, cases were registered against the other accused based on complaints filed by the younger girl and Childline at the Thamarassery, Kunnamangalam, Medical College and Kakkoor police stations in the district. The arrested include the girls’ uncle, a political leader.The police have collected detailed statements from the victims who have given the list of persons who have abused them at various locations over the period of time. So far 10 persons have been arrested in connection with the incident.
More arrests will follow in the coming days. The probe is being led by Kozhikode City Assistant Commissioner (North) E P Prithvirajan. Currently, the girls have been lodged at the government shelter home, where the police have imposed restrictions on visitors. It is suspected the mother of the girls tried to initially hush up the matter though the girls raised the issue with her. The accused have been booked under the POCSO Act 2012 and the Scheduled Castes and Tribes (Prevention of Atrocities) Act, 1989.
