KOCHI: Even five days on since the dastardly act in which a leading South Indian actor was tormented by a gang inside a moving vehicle, the alleged mastermind ‘Pulsar’ Suni aka Sunilkumar continues to remain elusive.

The failure to lay their hands on Suni has embarrassed the high-level probe team no end. All through Wednesday there were unconfirmed reports and speculation the main accused in  Friday night’s incident would either be arrested or surrender. But as dusk fell, it turned out to be another lost day for the investigation team.

Vijeesh, Suni’s accomplice and fellow accused in the case, has also evaded arrest. The situation has put the investigation team, which comprises two IGs and monitored by an ADGP, in a tight spot as they have been unable to track down a ‘small-time driver’.

Meanwhile, the investigators have collected statements from those associated with the production of an upcoming Malayalam movie with which the victim has been associated.

The move came after details emerged of Suni’s association with the production of the movie in Goa a few months ago. Earlier, the officers had received a tip-off on the duo hiding somewhere in Peelimedu, near Coimbatore.

“The assumption was largely based on a statement by Manikandan, who landed in police custody the other day from Palakkad, that Suni had parted ways with him after a drunken brawl at Coimbatore,” the police said.

There were reports Suni had pledged his gold chain weighing three sovereigns with a private financial institution in Alappuzha and had Rs 10,000 with him, before fleeing the state.

A top police officer with the investigation team said the sleuths had fanned out across the various districts and the neighbouring states.

“We are yet to ascertain their(the fugitive accused) location because they keep moving from one location to the other,” the officer said.

The cops on Monday night took into custody a person, reportedly a graphic designer associated with the film industry, from an apartment here.

The identity of the person, however, was not revealed after it became clear he was in no way connected with the abduction.Investigations so far have revealed  Manikandan was inside the van driven by Suni, which rear-ended the actor’s car.
