KANNUR: Following in the footsteps of his father, Madhav Dev from Pathanamthitta emerged first in the classical music competition held on Wednesday. In the festival held at Alappuzha in 1990, it was his father Anoop V Kadammanitta who secured the first prize in the event.

Madhav is a tenth standard student at St Thomas EMHS Pandalam in Kurumpala.
Last year, he had secured second prize. Madhav’s father Anoop taught him the basic lessons in classic music and now he is being trained by musician Venmani Sukumaran. Anoop, a musician, has sung playback in around 20 Malayalam films, including ‘Palunk’ and ‘Neelambari’.

“I am really happy with this achievement. It was my father who taught me the first lessons of classical music. His life is devoted to music and it inspires me a lot. Also, my music teacher helped me in this achievement,” said Madhav.  He has given classical music concerts on 40 stages till now.

Also, both father and son have performed together at several concerts.
“I never forcefully initiated him into music. By the age of six he started listening to songs, after which I started  teaching him. There are many musicians in my family. My father and grandfather were also good in classical music. And I am lucky to see my son follow our legacy,” said Anoop.
